The Scottish Latvian Foundation aims to develop a spirit of grass root entrepreneurism, utilising the experience of Scottish companies and individuals. The Foundation will provide a range of business support and mentoring programmes to Latvians who wish to start businesses of all types and sizes.

The Scottish Latvian Foundation is a new organisation dedicated to assisting the creation of new business in Latvia. The foundation has been created by a group of Scottish and Latvian business people who are concerned at the state of the economy in Latvia, and the current support available to people who wish to start their own business, both from banks and government agencies.

The Foundation believes that for Latvia to flourish there must be a vibrant and growing number of small enterprises of all sorts, and we believe that current economic constraints and the ambitions of the Latvian government to focus almost exclusively on the development of high tech companies means that support for the smaller and simpler businesses is simply not available.

We believe that through the provision of small scale loans, and quality business mentoring we will be able to help a wide range of Latvian individuals from across the country realise their ambitions and start their own businesses. These businesses will not necessarily have the potential to employ large numbers, but will be able to provide employment.

The Foundation is a not for profit organisation, and any money secured or made through the operation of the loan fund will be reinvested to offer further loans and support to potential business owners. The Foundation is non political, and has no interest or intention to get involved in Latvian politics.
